I'm falling inward. Growing from bone. Tucking myself into the darkness that only I know. I'm trying to wrap tendril, looking for the support, but falling short. I'm lost in the motion of it, the pieces that I know... looking for the echo that is safety, that is memory, that is me. I've wrapped myself round and round, but it's no longer home. I am thistle and scorched earth. Wind beaten, rootless and stubborn. I am the ache of growth, the burn of it, pulling against soil I no longer trust. I am heavy tears, heavy wondering, heavy searching.
And yet there is knowing. Knowing that there is a pulse beneath the ash, a breath under the rubble of it. That somewhere beyond the dark, there is a seam of light as thin as a whisper and that even in the depth of falling, I will reach for it.
